Solitaire No. 145 — Great Lakes Stone

Solitaire No. 145 — Great Lakes Stone

$50.00

Layer on layer of honey, sand, and smoke, wrapping around this stone in fine flowing bands. The top opens into warm golden patches flecked with grey, while the sides show the layers stacked tight, like a cross-section of time. Fitted on a concrete stand.

The stand is cast concrete, custom-made to envelop the contours of this stone, so the stone sits exactly as photographed, nested in the cast. The stone rests loose and can be picked up and set back freely. The bottom of the cast is fit with non-scratch pads to protect any surface it sits on.

Materials: Great Lakes stone, tumbled and polished · cast concrete stand, color through the body · sealed, satin finish.
Care: Dust the stone with a soft cloth. Wipe the stand with a dry or barely damp cloth; keep it away from standing water and acidic cleaners.

Why these stones are different

Every stone starts somewhere different, shaped by water, pressure, and time long before it reaches us. What they share is the work that comes next.

Every stone earns its place — twice.

Tumbling is slow work. Five stages, often repeated, one small batch at a time. Weeks turn into months before a stone is finished — surface ready for touch and reflection.

Then we screen again. Polishing reveals what was hidden — and only some stones earn a place. We keep the ones with presence.

Each one is then set on a concrete base we cast by hand, shaped to hold that stone.

Built to last. Effectively care-free. Set it on a shelf, a desk, a windowsill — anywhere that needs a little something.

We work with small stone shops, rockhounds, and community members with hands like ours. And we make these because they make us happy. We think they'll do the same for you.
